What is a tickler date?
A tickler date is a date in the future that is supposed to remind you to look into something for a matter.
While tasks are tracked by their due dates, many times you don't have a specific task on a matter, as you are waiting for an external event to occur before you can do your work.
Here are some examples of these instances:
-
You are waiting for the client to sign the retainer agreement and pay the initial retainer deposit.
- You are waiting for the process server to confirm that the statement of claim has been served on the defendants before you enter the deadline for the delivery of the defence.
- You are waiting for the client to send you a number of documents that you are supposed to review
- You are waiting for the other lawyer to send you comments on the latest draft you shared
- You sent your requisition letter in a real estate transaction and are waiting for the seller's response to the requisitions.
Tickler dates remind you to take a look to see if the external event you are waiting on has occurred.
