How to complete conflict searches in Nojumi

Prior to taking on a retainer, you are required to complete a conflict search to ensure you are not in a conflict of interest. Nojumi allows you to complete your conflict searches and document the results.

To complete a conflict search in Nojumi

  1. Create a new matter and set the matter status to pending
  2. Click on the Searches tab
  3. Under the Conflict Search page
    1. Click on Add New Search.
    2. Select the Search type (Person, Company, or Property).
    3. Enter the search terms and click on Search. If no results are found, you will receive a notification stating that no conflicts were found. If any results are found, you will be asked to specify if the results reflect a conflict or not. You will also be able to indicate that you are not sure at this point in time.
    4. Click on Save Search Results

You should complete the above for every possible variation that a name or address may have. As an example, when doing a conflict search on the opposing party, try the following variations:

  • Search using that exact first name and last name
  • If the person has a middle, try searching for their name both with and without the middle name
  • Search using just the first name
  • Search using just the last name
  • If the name has other common spellings, search using the alternative spellings

Once a search is completed, you are not able to modify it. You can only delete it.

If any results are shown and you indicate that you are not sure if there is a conflict or not at this time, you should investigate further, and once you know, you should delete the old search and repeat the search again and this time indicate your final finding.

Once your search is complete, click on Download Report and save to the file.
